CCS Groups at Open Door

Yoga as Therapy

Each week participants will strengthen, lengthen, and relax muscles through various styles of yoga. Somatic Experiencing and DBT techniques will be introduced and explored to learn how to identify, experience, and manage thoughts, sensations, and emotions effectively.

Open Door Center for Change Book Club

We will start with the book “Becoming Aware: A 21 Day Mindfulness Program for Reducing Anxiety and Cultivating Calm” as a guide to engage in a mindfulness practice to build awareness of the breath, mind, and body.

We will meet each week to describe our observations of our experience in non-judgmental ways and provide support in establishing an individualized mindfulness practice. Supportive DBT and Somatic Experiencing skills may be taught and integrated throughout the sessions for distress tolerance and emotional regulation as members participate in daily/weekly exercises.

Fiber Arts Social Group

This group will seek to promote positive social interactions to increase brain health. Engaging in knitting, crocheting, and other fiber arts around others provides a unique opportunity to have discussions with people who share a hobby/interest.

Supportive DBT skills may be taught and integrated throughout the sessions for interpersonal effectiveness as members participate in weekly group discussions.
