I’ve been in the field for nearly 20 years now. After all that time I can list the things that I think work reasonably well in a given situation most of the time. It is with more than just a bit of regret that I think about how ill-prepared I was 20 years ago to help the people who came through my door navigate the system. I have to believe that it must feel the same for people who are just now approaching recovery. Where do I turn? What number do I dial first? Which program can I go to? Which program will my insurance let me go to? It all seems overwhelming.
Dane County is a pretty progressive place. You’d think that in our community there would be a clear answer to the questions above. Unfortunately, that’s not the case. There are so many options in Madison and the surrounding area–which is a good thing–but it results in a very confusing and disparate system.
